Which is more important, that Skyhold know I was helpful, or that I am able to deny any part in this and claim Coupe's lying in the future if it ever comes out?

The people who would take issue with it—some Resolutionists. Libertarians who already disliked you personally. I do not think it would become a real issue unless someone wanted to argue you should not be trusted, and if there are rumors or denials it could easily be worse. Those who honestly think it's wrong are probably either too cozy with Tevinter and exactly the kind of problem me doing this will help counter, or those with weak stomachs for everything else we do anyway. I doubt it will make any real difference in terms of Skyhold's assessment of me, and anyway their opinion hasn't seemed to have any real impact so far anyway. But if I tell Coupe not to tell them it will look like I'm hiding it and make her think it's leverage she can use.
