Spirit Medium

SPIRIT MEDIUM
Spirit mediums are mages with the ability to communicate and commune with spirits. They can't summon spirits better than any other mage, but they are able to better communicate with them when they're around, including sensing them and their emotions, making complex instructions understood, and reading their minds. So this is my best attempt at figuring out how that might be implemented in combat situations.

⬥ SENTRY He can direct wisps to specific locations and maintain some influence over them from greater distances, allowing them to scout ahead, guard points, or attack from multiple angles.
+ COMMAND He can direct individual wisps to use different elemental attacks, rather than them all taking cues from his staff type.
+ RETREAT He can direct wisps to return to him rather than engage if they take damage or encounter enemies.

⬥ SHADOWS He can direct spell wisps to shadow other people rather than stay with him, giving those individuals the associated spellpower bonus (if they're mages).
+ PROTECTORS When a wisp is shadowing an ally, Guardian Spirit will trigger if the ally is in danger.
+ AVENGERS When a wisp is shadowing an ally, a Spirit Mark simulacrum will trigger if the ally is disabled.

● PSYCHIC While spirits are around, Kostos' ability to sense them and changes in their moods or see through their eyes means he can't be flanked, theoretically, subject to him making an actual effort in the thread.

● CARELESS WISPER During combat, he can maintain control over up to eight wisps at a time, assuming they're in a reasonable range.

★ ALLIANCE He can sometimes convince Fade creatures or possessed enemies to fight as allies. This is subject to all sorts of limitations, such as: he has to be close enough to communicate with them in the first place, it doesn't override free will so the more powerful and clever the spirit the more difficult it will be to convince them to do anything they wouldn't want to do, directing an enraged/panicked demon toward a new target will be easier than stopping one from fighting at all, if being able to convince a spirit not to attack the party would make the thread less fun then it just won't work, etc.

During the more desperate stretches of the Mage/Templar War, Kostos took some theoretical concepts that had been consigned to the rubbish bin for being too dangerous or otherwise unworkable and hammered them into something that did work, using his spirit affinity bullshit. The end result lets him function more or less as a magic battery.

⬥ BLITZ Similar to spirit healing, but not at all spirit healing, he floods a single ally with a burst of spirit-provided magical energy that doesn't do shit for their health but does significantly increase their spellpower and attack speed for a short time.
+ FOCUS Instead of increasing attack speed, the target can maintain a normal speed while they can see forever their chance of a critical hit and the resulting damage spike instead.
+ SURGE The recipient uses no mana for attacks made during the spell's duration, allowing them to do as much as they can cram into the brief window. But once the spell ends the mana cost of each attack is deducted retroactively, and anything in excess of their available pool is taken from their health instead. In non video-game terms: they can go really fucking hard and cast every big AOE spell they know in rapid succession, but then they'll probably fall over unconscious and bleeding out of their ears.

⬥ AMPLIFY He expends all of his available magical energy to amplify the effects of the next single spell cast by an ally, with the increase in its effect ranging from 500% to 0%, depending on how much energy he has to give when it's activated relative to the requirements of the targeted spell.
+ SAFE BET Moderate bonus damage increase for spirit spells.
+ GAMBLE Stronger-than-advisable spirit assistance doubles the amplification effect, but with a 25-33% chance (depending on the total power involved) that the magic will spike out of control and cause unintended damage or friendly fire.

⬥ CHANNEL He creates a sustained open channel for another spellcaster that enables them to draw directly on his magic, adding his magic attribute/spellpower to their own for whatever they cast, so effectively making them twice as powerful. Sustaining the effect takes about half of his available energy and limits what he's able to cast himself in the meantime.

● TRANSMIT When mage allies in his vicinity have an active barrier, they acquire the effects of his passive abilities (other than those from Spirit Medium and this specialization because that would create an endless loop) at half effectiveness.

● AUGMENT When other people cast spells in his vicinity, he's able to manipulate the ambient magic (like what's described in Clean Burn) and channel it into a small increase to the spellpower of anyone within that radius.
